I would like to ask if anyone is aware of an existence of an approved abbreviations for common RAT strains. I know that such list is available for the MICE inbred strains, and would like to know if there is anything like this for inbred rat strains.

Well, I recall that there were various resources and databases that have been indexing and possibly still indexing the available and new rat/mice and other model organisms' strains.
1. Now, I think that the Jackson lab's MGI database is one of the most complete, prominent and reliable databases that you can check:

*You can also search in details by strain type and name:

2. You will most likely get what you need, but you may also check the link below, in case you need very detailed information meticulously gathered in a database about all strains that have been categorized by the field of study:
