I am trying to run a quasi static analysis(30 time steps with amplitude : 0., 0., 1., 0.5, 2., 1., 3., 0.).This is a plane strain part under Mode I load.The material is elasto plastic material(chaboche) which i provide using:
*plastic, hardening=COMBINED, datatype=PARAMETERS, numberbackstresses=3
I am using fracture criterion as shown below:
*fracturecriterion, type=VCCT, normaldirection=MTS, viscosity=5e-05, mixedmodebehavior=POWER
I have a precrack here and i see that after the crack opens up,it does not propagate.So i increase the displacement to see the crack propagate.After few increases in displacement,analysis fails to converge.The error i receive is:
"Time increment required is less than the minimum specified".
I have tried all control parameters but no success.I was wondering if this is to do with the elasto plastic material.

"Time increment required is less than the minimum specified".
this error is telling us that, you have to go to the STEP module and change the time to smaller value.
This, allows the software to bring the analysis within desire time interval.
Hopefully it is work.

If you are using Abaqus to deal with this problem. When you define your XFEM properties, there is a window which can let you to select whether crack propagates or not.
