07 July 2016 6 9K Report

Any estimation by gender and religious breakdown? I know the WHO Report 2012 stats but I think it's quite low and there may be severe under-reporting. My hypothesis (well, subject to your criticism) is that Hindu may be highest, followed by Christians and Buddhists (and those Chinese religious/cultural groups like Taoism, etc) (probably, just probably, about similar rate), and the lowest is Islam. Any idea of our practice now in terms of reporting? What I was told is that as long as the sergeant of the nearest police station issues the "permit mengubur", things can proceed. The police is more interested whether there is any foul play involved. If there is none, they are happy to assist in preparation of the necessary documentation to meet the various religious requirements to meet certain time-line planned. I am not sure on the procedure for those who passed away at home (e.g. elderly person, or suicide, etc). At certain places, a GP can visit the home and certify it's natural death, and we go to the police station with the GP certification to get the "burial permit". Please correct me if I am wrong. Is there any specific regulation under the laws governing this in Malaysia? From my experience, the administrator of the cemetery or a crematorium will need the police "burial permit" to proceed. There is little regulation for a columbarium though. There may be higher under-reporting for sub-urban and rural areas ... maybe.
