I'm having trouble reaching full densification (>99%) using SPS. Even if the same procedure is followed (same dwell time, temp, pressure) from a successful densification process using the same materials, the relative density is still off by ~30%. We think one possible source of this low densification is an uneven distribution of the powder in the dye. But how can we evenly distribute the powder without tapping? Does anyone have tips to enhance the densification?

You can try a pre-pressing, literature data are not always reliable 100%, these authors may have forgotten to submit some parameters. And the exact composition of the pressed powder must be checked, even minor changes in composition can greatly influence the densification. Is the SPS machine working properly?
I think you should check the machine pulse pattern. After that, the practical temperature for your powder. You might consider using some binder (for liquid phase sintering).
