Any tips on rat brain extractions for PFC whole cell patch clamp recordings?

Could anyone willing please share their favorite protocol for rat brain extractions for PFC whole cell patch clamp recordings? I did just fine with simple extractions in mice, but rat skulls are thick, I have an implanted headcap to work around, and I’m having trouble getting consistently good slices. I’ve tried perfusions and simple extractions. What works the best for you?
