Hello all I am planning to buy a qiacube for my lab which mainly focuses on viral molecular studies and I intend to use this machine for viral RNA/DNA extraction. Will be an asset or liability for my lab? We plan to process 300 samples per month. Please guide me.What would be the approx cost of the instrument?
I think that the purchase of such a machine (approx. 21500 US $ + taxes and excluding reagents / maintenance contract) makes only sense if you have an extremely high throughput of samples. Otherwise I would use my funds differently.

We use QIAcube in our laboratory for RNA/DNA extraction. It uses clone based extraction method so we can get more RNA/DNA from field samples than magnetic bead–based technology. In one extraction you can use maximum 12 samples. Also you can use cador pathogen mini kit for RNA/DNA extraction at same time.
I agree with Dr. Scheckhuber: very high costs for the purchase and maintenance of equipment can be justified only in case of continuous operation with a large number of samples. Additional funds can always be used for staff training. In some cases, manual extraction of nucleic acids from various sample types (tissues and organs, serum, saliva, excreta) may be preferred.
