Hi experts,

we currently struggle with our ~ 8-10 year old Agilent 1100 G1322A Degasser (I asked a question about 1.25 years ago). It worked very well and now the status LED is turning red - I asked the technical support and it seems that there is a broken part within the unit, either the vacuum pump, vacuum chamber, control valve or related. The repair would cost a fortune since we can not localize the problem.

Now, Agilent suggested to exchange the 1100 Degasser with a refurbished one (I send back the broken one) and I get a 1 year warranty with that, which is about 3000€ in total.

I currently think of using this exchange program to get a brand new Degasser - either the G1379 1260 Micro Degasser using microstructured membranes for gas removal or the G1322 1200 'normal' Degasser which uses very fine semi-permeable PTFE tubing such as the 1100 Degasser (pictures regarding that in my recent question from Apr 2015). Currently, the rest of the HPLC unit is completely 1100 Series and we work with flow rates of maximum 1-2 ml/min, most of the time 0.5 m/l (water/AcN solvents or aqueous buffer systems).

My questions are: Are there any advantages of the 1260 Micro Degasser towards the 'normal' 1200 Degasser in terms of the ratio between price and applicability for our purposes as well as maintenance and durability? Alternatively, would you recommend to go with the refurbished 1100 Degasser as they suggested? I guess when asking for a new one as exchange unit, this will be much more expensive, I'm sure. Currently I tend to go with the 1260 Micro Degasser since it fits best for our purpose - but the price matters and I think we'll invest some money in the future to get a whole new 1200 HPLC.

I attached some links with Agilent pdf's which may be helpful regarding the technical specifications.
