CONCLUSION Venturi studied goiter and cretinism and the action of iodine in stomach, breast, brain, skin, saliva and immunity [ 41]. This action is clearly shown in the below figures and references. The function of extrathyroidal iodine is an important new area of investigation, which might be useful for the study of antioxidant mechanism, carcinogenesis, immunity, atherosclerosis and other neurologic, retinic [43] and degenerative diseases, and also for study of human and life evolution.

In these times it is interesting also to report the known antibacterial action and (in this age of COVID-19) the studies on the effective antiviral action of iodide, in particular regarding the respiratory tract, bronchial mucus and the saliva, the latter forming the infectious droplets of respiratory viruses [18, 44, 45]. ----------oo000---------
