I always saw triple quadrupole mass spectrometer coupled with chromatography and, of course, I recognize the advantages. I wonder if someone uses this mass detector coupled with some "peculiar" setup.
many direct introduction systems can be added to a TQ, from APCI to paperspray. This gives access to rapid analysis of complex systems, use of CID helps for identification. those technique are now in-use for rapid screening of whatever is needed (in liquids, solid samples, atmosphere). The area is quite large ! If you need papers about that, there is many development on direct sources in the 2000's that were leaded by Cooks'group (Purdue University) or Eberlin's group (University of Campinas) for instance.
