I'm doing research about algae oil as a resource for omega-3. I'm writing a method about the oil extraction from algae. I found different ways of doing this (wet and dry, dry by using algae powder). Which way is better?
IMy project is also on algal oil production. Given your specificity of omega-3, It is always better to extract the algal oil from the lyophilized (dried at subzero temperature) biomass using conventional methods of Folch or Bligh & Dyer. After complete extraction, you can quantify the same using GC-FID, or GC-MS or LC-MS. I hope the link below may help.
I'm strongly agree with Sk Riyazat Khadim he describe the best way. Because of during heat drying or too long drying or keeping for long time some oil could oxidised. Or some phenolic compound could make complex with it. But if You will use fresh algae the yield will be much less or You could even lost some.
You could also dry algae with CO2 and next step increase the pressure and temperature and make supercritical extraction in the same equipment.
