Virtually all human activities ends up in pollution. Soil, water or air pollution we are witnessing in recent times are the signatures of industrialization and urbanization. It therefore becomes imperative for scientist to concentrate more on saving our environment than polluting it as currently done.
Nabeel, you have very correctly pointed out the present day environmental problems. This is common in developing as well as developed countries. In addition to many causes, increasing urbanisation and industrialisation increasing this more.
It's right - that industrialization and urbanization are creating serious problem to environment (three spheres altogether - lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere). But, we cannot stop these anthropogenic activities. The only option - we have to go for environment friendly development.
The advance research can only shows the path for environment friendly development. Local environmental problems can be minimized by enhancing the environmental awareness among people and true willingness of the local authorities for execution of some primary measures particularly in the underdeveloped and developing countries
Life can not be imagined now without energy. But, we are getting major part of energy (about 80% of total global energy consumption) from burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
Fossil fuels are relatively cheap and readily available. But, the use of fossil fuels is raising serious problem to the environment. It is producing a large amount of carbon dioxide (a green house gas) and contributing to global warming.
The contribution of energy from renewable sources like biomass, solar, wind, tides, waves, geothermal etc. is only 16 to 18%.
To save the environment, we have to minimize the use of fossil fuels and to move towards renewable sources for generation of energy. For this, we require cost-effective technologies.
The water (surface and subsurface both) is mainly getting polluted from the municipal wastes as well as industrial effluents. We need research for cost effective water treatment technologies so that these can be installed at every places.
In brief, to save our beautiful planet from environmental pollution, the following measures can be considered:
1) Environmental education starting from schools to community levels
2) Reduction in energy consumption (though in third world per capita consumption is not much)
3) Advanced research for cost-effective technologies in order to environment friendly development (urbanization/industrialization) and transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources for energy
4) Lastly, the provision of fund in national budget for related R & D and implementation of research findings
Right dear Asit especially environment-friendly development and the renewable sources like biomass, solar, wind, tides, waves, geothermal. I appreciate your detailed comment. Best regards
Almost all the industrial production releases environmental pollutants. There is no production process having zero release. So, what we are using now in terms of technologies, instruments, goods were basically came through those industrial process and already made the negative impacts on environment.
I present to you below the role of companies working in the field of technology and their methods of reducing environmental pollution
Many technology companies have found that pollution reduction is required from a commercial perspective. Some have found that reducing pollution improves their image among the masses and saves money. Others have developed products or methods that are not dangerous to the environment in order to win consumer satisfaction, and others have developed pollution control systems because they believe that laws will force them to do so, sooner or later. Some companies limit pollution because the operators have preferred to do so.
Waste disposal in the past has been relatively cheap for most enterprises. Today, the authorized sites for waste disposal are rare and the costs of using them have increased. As a result, many institutions have created ways to produce as little waste as possible.
Pollution reduction, or elimination, is expected to be one of the fastest growing industries in the future. For example, some pollution management institutions have developed equipment to remove harmful fumes from chimneys. Vapors can be trapped using filters, or traps that use static electricity. Some institutions and manages recycling and energy conservation programs. Some other institutions are also helping to develop processes that reduce pollutants.
When the cost of eliminating pollution from current production methods is added to manufacturing costs, it is clear that the least polluting roads are economically preferable.
We have developed a product 'Domestic filter for defluoridation of water'. This filter is for rural people of fluoride affected regions. I have attached the details of this filter to reply a question. To see the same click the link, given below (6th reply):
Population growth and related urbanization & industrialization are definitely the reasons for all the environmental problems. It is not fair to blame only the advancement in technology. It is the greed of human beings and misuse & abuse of the technology which has resulted in the environmental problems. People are least concerned about the environmental consequences, when ever they are involved in the developmental activities or using any technology.
