Hi, currently I'm searching for an affordable laptop with minimum specs for bioinformatics.
My work will be NGS analysis (ChIP-seq & RNA-seq)
I believe that MacBook is the best choice, but I have some budget limitation and I also opt for a used laptop as well. My lab has MAC desktop for bioinformatics but I will return to my home country soon and I have to continue the analysis at my home.
For now, I have favour on this laptop:
Lenovo ThinkPad W541 Workstation i7 4710MQ, 4-core processor, RAM 16GB, SSD 512 GB, Windows 10 Pro (used).
I think it is good enough for doing NGS analysis.
Hopefully, I can get some comments on this.

First of all increase your RAM to 64GB as the GATK, BWA, Bowtie tools needs high RAM for alignments. And also if possible increase your storage space. SSD512 is not enough. Make it to HDD 4TB.
Alternatively, you could run your analysis on cloud-based platforms like Galaxy. That would get you around buying something new.

If you can go for 8-core processor and RAM 32GB, your investment may last longer. Are you planning to use Linux-based OS?
Another option may be buying and used MacOS laptop that can be upgraded (principally in RAM/HD), so you keep working with an OS that you already know.
