I am trying to develop a method to determine the porosity of aerogels via N2 adsorption. Have anyone of you worked in the field? Any recommendation? What temperature do you degass the sample? For how long? I am aware about the macroporosity of the aerogel, depending on the drying methodology, however I would be very interested in measuring the meso/micro of the material.

According to studies, aerogels possess good thermal stability, therefore I would recommend to degass it at 300-400 C. The duration of degassing should be chosen based on residual vapor pressure during the procedure. In my measurement of silica materials I usually degass samples until 0.01 Torr is reached. It usually takes up to 5 hours. Also, do not forget about possible helium trapping during the micropore measurements.
Thank you very much for your answer. In this case, these materials are bio-based and the do not afford to be heated to 300-400 C without being degraded.
