I need to perform cross-sectional SEM imaging on aerogel samples to study their microstructure. Since the aerogels are quite soft and flexible I want to know how can I make a cut without tampering with the surface.
Cutting the aerogel sample, even while frozen, may still cause some surface tampering. To minimize this, you can use a microtome with a sharp diamond knife to make a precise and clean cut. Additionally, using a gentle touch and ensuring the sample is properly supported during the cutting process can help reduce surface damage.
