Why in x-ray diffraction we measure intensity Vs two theta rather than Vs theta?
In diffractometer, we fix the lameda value and vary the theta. So, why we plot intensity Vs Two theta?
The answer lies in the first part of the Braggs law which is mostly hidden in the text books.

The transmitted and reflected beams are observed in any experiment and the angle BW them is 2theta. Theta Is the angle between the crystallographic plane and the incident or reflected beams. When the detector is rotated across, it measures the angle between the reflected and transmitted beams which is 2theta, hope the answer.
X-ray diffraction is the elastic scattering of x-ray photons by atoms in a periodic lattice. The scattered monochromatic x-rays that are in phase give constructive interference. Actually Braggs law has two parts, the first part being mostly hided in the text books.
The first part of Braggs law is: For every diffracted beam there exists a set of crystal lattice planes such that the diffracted beam appears to be specularly reflected from the set of planes. By specular reflection He meant that angle of incidence and angle of reflection are both measured from the plane and not from the normal. These two angles are always equal.
Now the experimentalist can not see the crystal planes. He/She can see only where is the transmitted and diffracted beam going and by geometry the angle between transmitted and diffracted beam is two theta always. Therefore, we plot intensity VS two theta in x-ray diffraction.

It is a diffraction of incident xray beam. The bean get diffracted and go away. the angle marked here is the angle between incident and outgoing diffracted wave. The angle what you get from the result is 2theetha only.
In accordance with some of the above statements, I think it is a historic issue.
In Laue and Debye-Scherrer pattern the only angle showing up is the deflection/scatter angle of the x-rays which in the Bragg approach is equal to 2*theta. Thus to be consistent in the presentation of the diffraction pattern the scatter angle 2*theta is maintained when going to goinometer based system.

It is simple to understand. Incident X-ray will touch the atom and diffract and leave away. The 2tgeeta is the angle between incident and diffracted beam. That's it

to the reflecting plane, and the diffracted beam are always coplanar. (2) The angle

In addition to all the above answers, there is the first-ever "diffractometer" built based on Bragg's law for the first experiments.
The physical construction has a fixed source position, equivalent to our theta x 2theta geometry.
So, the detector, at beginning the photographer film collected at once a physical area/space, not possible to achieve with the actual detector geometry, unless using a detector area.
The experiment expressed in terms of theta x theta, the detector and source need to be in synchronous movement, not present at the development of the technic bases.
So, historically in practice, the Bragg's law relationship still preserved in 2theta.
