In collaboration with investigators at the University of Delaware we have written a protocol to collect data on 1) Calorie needs in the obese critically ill patient, 2) Effect of calorific intake on clinical parameters, adipokine levels ( particularly adiponectin) and 8-isoprostane levels as a measure of oxidative stress. We are interested in adiponectin as adiponectin levels have been correlated with outcome in critical illness and it exerts significant inflammatory response modifying effects. I would welcome input from anyone with similar interests who may wish to collaborate on the study, help review and refine the protocol and who might have insight into potential funding sources. It would be a preliminary study and cost estimate about 50K. Would furnish details if interested.
