We are in a very desperate situation right now about a piece of EI Ion Source in GC/MS: Lens Insulator.
I cleaned the ion source in methanol for 15 minutes with sonication. To let it dry, I put it in oven. Instead of 60 degrees, the oven raised itself to 400 degrees due to a program previously set. Pieces exposed to that heat around 45 minutes before I noticed.
After I took the pieces out , there is a noticeable darker tone on the color of Lens Insulator. I wonder if it is still usable or do we need to purchase a new one?
Hello, as I know your part from polytetrafluoroethylene if you see little deformation of texture defects so you need new one. Normally melting point for your part is 327*C.

From my experience and from all interaction with vendors and specialists, you should in principle only clean metal parts vigorously. With our EI sources from Agilent, we scrubbed with a solution of saturated aluminium oxide in EtOH, washed with milliQ, sonicated in milliQ, then in methanol, then acetone, and finally in pentane. We used our GC-MS park primarily for soil extracts so the sources would get very dirty. Hence the quite elaborate protocol. Ceramic and plastic parts were never included. If dirty, dip a q-tip in EtOH or DCM and scrub lightly. Allow to sorry. Consider cleaning again with your common solvent (in our case pentane) to avoid background contamination within the source.
In you case, I would definitely buy a new and replace the compromised insulator.
