If we take the Mediterranean, its not one distinct climate it varies greatly from east to west and north to south. The north is more temperate-like with rainfall more dispersed throughout the year while the south drier with more heavy rainy spells. This surely would have an impact on the way green roofs perform .
yes the green roof performance is indeed influenced by the climatic conditions of the locality.Green roof are most effective for hot -arid,and semi-arid climates but not suitable for maritime climates with heavy rainfall or the northern plains with scarce sun and excessive snow.

Thank you for your reply to my query. Do you by any chance know of any research which shows how climate influences the performance of the substrate in use or better still how the substrate performs in different climatic zones?
