Hi Chris, for somatic cells, cell adhesion is primarily controlled by integrins.
Integrins are a family of different dimeric alpha and beta subunits present on cell surfaces that bind to sequences on adhesion molecules (e.g. RGD).
Which integrin ab pairs are engaged with the ECM can have profound effects on cells.
