Colloidal suspensions with addition of single nanostructures existed and were researched commonly. If we add mixture of different-shape nanostructures like nanotubes and nanoparticles or nanosheets and nanoparticles of same material in water, could the suspension stability be improved or decreased?
From a theoretical point of view depletion flocculation and depletion stabilization, the latter at very high solids, maybe considered.
Addition of particles with larger specific surface should induce depletion flocculation at a critical solids concentration. This mechanism should also be in operation for particles of different shape regardless of same or different chemical nature.
Hi,thanks for your point sharing. I have ever noticed that researchers experimentalized such kinds of suspensions with addition of nanoaphers of different diameters or mixture of nanoparticles and nanorod and depletion atttraction or entropic forces were applied to analyse experiamental results. If mixture of nanoparticles and nanotubes were added in water,I wonder could I apply entropy forces to analyze suspension stability.
