It is easy to see Vygotsky's knotted handkerchief or Bandura's bobo doll as part of an extended mind, but it seems to me that supply demand models or the ladder-like models of double helix DNA can act also as part of an extended mind. One problem I see with contemporary educational research methodologies is that they generally don't get that person-and-abstract-model might work well enough in the classroom but be an ecological nightmare when released into the real world.
