Capsule routing is just yet another technique that is used in a group of algorithms called neural networks. Did calculus replace algebra?
When asked: will capsule routing become commonly used and useful technique? I'd say yes, it seems quite useful in providing rotation and location independence and so seems to abstract objects better then ConvNet which contains a technique (sliding window) only for variances in location of data pattern.
