Because most of politicians, especially in the underdeveloped countries, are hypocrite and selfish. They look after their own interests and love authority and control of people. The only thing they care about is how to collect money.
Politician is rarely saw as job. The schools exist, but I am not convinced are useful.
For those who know more about this murky world, it's no wonder they don't embrace it.
Politics should do ... policies.
The problem of the state is the concept of granting power:
An NGO ( or more) has authority over... public systems.
When public systems will be able to decide for themselves, politician will be a real job. Until then, somebody on a job without the special domain technical background, and being there for a ( very short) passage through life, will be very easy to fool and manipulate.
They want to become Doc, Eng because everyone wants to be respected. That does not mean they don't want to be politicians. Remember, we need commitment and lot of sacrifices to achieve doc and so on but you need virtually nothing (except money) to become politicians especially in this part of the world.
Doctors, engineers, cricketers have relatively secure and safe future; politics is ambiguous and uncertain, and needs visionary commitment and selfless devotion for their country and country men.
1. Politicians play many "Poly Tricks" to win in the elections specially in the developing countries like India. Generally (may not 100%), those poly tricks for their (politicians) benefits only. They do (poly tricks like) wrong promises, use money, power, unethical things to win in the elections. Most of the younger generations do not want be like these people.
2. If some one is genuine in politics, they may not get good majority (may be it is very difficult).
3. Even after crossing all barriers, it is difficult to go higher position (like MLA / MP/ CM / PM) to serve the people because not having political back ground from their family.
4. Younger generations generally are from middle class families, they need money to run their family. But, in politics we don't get money (if they are sincere) till they get win in the elections. Even they win (not like MLA / MP / CM / PM), the money (salary only) is not sufficient.
5. But some people (here, I took some persons from India) like MGR, Jayalalitha, Kamal Hasan, etc (from tamilnadu), NTR, Pawan Kalyan, Chiranjeevi, etc (from Andhra), started their political career after getting some money, fame in the society, etc.
So, generally youth prefer to go other paths except politics.
As a physician or engineer, you can become more independent, e.g. by private practice; professional politics is build on a multitude of dependencies, starting with a special socialization in 'networks'.
Politician is not a profession. It is just an extension of social responsibility. After fulfilling the requirements only, we can serve. Job provides and makes us sustainable and capable for service
Politics has no guarantees. You may make it big time in politics and you may also fall big time. However professions like engineering, veterinary or human medicine, law etc guarantees the young generation of a secure future
It is a different ball game here in Nigeria because young and vibrant youths are encouraged to join political parties. Politics and political positions give the highest financial dividend than any other endeavours. Politicians are the richest people in Nigeria.
In politics your growth depends on your family status not abilities. Politics is not being taught as a profession and in young brains it has been fed that polytics is bad,,,,
We are living the Era of science. Advances in the medicine, engineering,..... Etc are astonishing. The young people especially in developing countries experiencing wars over the last few years are now orphans due to the behavior of politicians. Ask youths in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen... etc. These have lost their houses, parents, families and everything. They will never dream to be politicians or military.
Even in developed countries, no one trust policy anymore. Look at France these days!
Thank you so much Sir @ Dr. Remi Okeke for reiterating the fact that politics is the biggest money spinning business in town now in our dear country above every other professions.
I don’t think younger generation is different in any way in their selection of politics (available to elites) vs. high paying jobs for science graduates. Anurag Saxena dear, if you have any data to support the basic premise of your question, I would like to see it. Thanks for a thought provoking question.
Because the corruption in politics is more exposed than other fields. It has reached up-to such an extent that the first thought about any politician comes as "he is the source of almost all corruptions in the system by inheritance". It is a social thought about politicians.
This is the cause due to which the genuine politicians have also been subjected to prove his credibility and honesty frequently.
Due to lack of motivation, political backup and proper vision for the country, youth generally prefer to pursue their career rather than joining politics. Most of the youngsters prefer guaranteed source of income which cannot be provided by simply joining politics.
I will quote the opinion of a citizen of the Russian Federation who is 24 years old (April 17, 2013). (Modern youth in Russia - the future of the country?)
https://denis-balin.livejournal.com/3118932.html
How young people of Russia understand their country, their place in society and their future.
It turned out that they do not understand in any way. At least, there is no any meaningful model of the structure of their country for young people, and there is no clear scenario for their own life either.
Young people do not see prospects in the profession they have received; they do not trust either the authorities or the oppositionists. Only those who chose the answer “emigration” had a clear vision of their future. One third of the interviewed young men and women admitted their desire to leave the country.
If in the group of first-year students (from 17 to 25 years old), attitude towards Russia as a great power, a powerful country with a great past and a glorious future most often sounds, then after 25, after graduation, this attitude changes to a very skeptical : "Great Power, which is rolling into the abyss." Faced with reality, young people begin to look at the world dramatically.
The main problems of our country, young people called such: fools, roads, theft, arbitrariness of officials, alcoholism and drug addiction, as well as poverty. Moreover, according to the ideas of the respondents, poverty is unfair - he who honestly works all his life, dies in poverty. A third said they want to emigrate. And we noticed that such a desire was expressed by those who rarely went anywhere else.
Conclusion
The statistics above, I gave for clarity, so that you can look at what is happening and compare with what you can observe in your region. You can not do this and just write your opinion in the comments. I will write about my region. The youth of the Leningrad Region, and this is the 4th region of economic importance of the Russian Federation, may be in a slightly better position than their peers from other regions. And the presence of such a city as St. Petersburg offers more opportunities for self-realization. But this is only at first glance. For some reason, many of my friends, acquaintances and acquaintances of acquaintances, do not rush to take advantage of the opportunities that they have. Many simply do not care about their own country, no vision of their future, and no desire to do something.
Political views are superficial, often even simply lacking an understanding of what is happening or just everyone does not care. Not everything is so bad, there are creative, talented and energetic guys, but in general, I can not say that they are in the majority. Living in the provinces, albeit near the "Northern Capital", is still quite boring and the smaller the settlement is, the more it manifests itself. The main distinction is alcohol and drugs. Sometimes, I am amazed at the indifference and laziness of individual representatives of my generation.
Indifference towards the country and their own destiny. I repeat that maybe I am simply exaggerating, because there are many positive examples and not all young people are like this, but every year we have to observe the growth of such negative trends.
RF. Who does the modern youth want to be? Modern youth, as well as young people of the past, are always aware of the events and chooses fashionable, popular, progressive professions. At all times there were conscious and irresponsible personalities. Unconscious, regardless of time, never aspire to anything. Conscious aspire to the popular, valuable, necessary types of work. Depending on the psychological state, a person can choose for himself a suitable kind of activity, and, perhaps, dream and strive for another. Already few people want to become an astronaut, as it was at the peak of the development of astronautics, in Soviet times. Popular among the majority of young people are: musicians;
actors,
politicians;
figures of show business;
IT workers;
They are not inferior to the profession of doctors, firefighters, law enforcement officers, translators.
The capitalist trend in the world, the economic decline, the scarcity of job opportunities with high level of unemployment , and the developments that have taken place are all factors that motivate the young generation to seek guaranteed employment opportunities in the labor market. The medical and engineering professions are jobs that ensure a very high employment opportunity. in addition and because of the large administrative and financial corruption caused by politicians in most countries of the world , This generation hates the political profession
Some of us dream to become a doctor, some want to become an engineer. Whatever we choose, we all always desire for the best kind of career for us. We also seek joy out of our career.
