Basically in surface plasmon resonance, we always incident a 'P' Polarized light which strikes an electrically conducting gold layer at the interface,at the place of 'P' Polarized light can we used 'S' Polarized light for striking on interface,is it possible ?
The short answer is that energy and momentum needs to be conserved. So if you think of the wave vector you can only do that for the correct polarization, the wave vector being related to momentum. To explain this in detail it is best to draw out all the boundary conditions and work through the math.
The more complicated answer is that there are other ways you can potentially meet the momentum matching conditions. For example instead of a smooth thin film you could put a period array of holes or bumps into the film, then it turns out that you can also match the momentum matching condition. In those cases you have some more flexibility with what polarizations can excite resonances.
