I sythesis membran chitosan, membran chitosan/tripolifosfat, and membran chitosan/tannic acid/tripolifosfat. The reaction is, hydroxil (OH) of chitosan will banded with phenolik (OH) of tannic acid become hydrogen band. Then NH3+ of chitosan will banded with O- of tripolifosfat.
Then, I measured in SEM-EDX instrument for look morpholgy and composition for each element. The rezult can look the table. Why, nitrogen element in chitosan/TA/TPP dissapear or decrease than membran chitosan?
EDX is a surface analysis, maybe you just got a bad spot. I would suggest to repeat the analysis to see if you get the same result. Alternatively, I would suggest other thechniques that could give you more reliable results (like elemental analysis or ICP-OES or ICP-MS).
Anyway, it is hard to tell you if you might loose that nitrogen due to deamination processes without knowing th reaction conditions used (even if it is a process unlikely to occur). Moreover, since you react the nitrogen with the TPP, it would make no sence to loose the nitrogen from the chitosan without also loosing the phosphorus.
EDS analysis can not be considered as the best for quantitative analysis. You should check the concentrations with more authentic analytical procedures.
