I am trying to electrodeposit (Chronoamperometry/Potentiostatic) PANI on Stainless steel mesh (as a working electrode), counter electrode is Pt sheet and Ag/AgCl as reference electrode, aqueous electrolyte solution is 1M H2SO4 and 0.1M aniline. when working electrode, counter electrode and reference electrode connected to Gamry workstation (potentiostat is OFF), bubbles are started coming out from working electrode. when i switch ON the Potentiostat and run potentiostatic scan, it show overload i.e., I>Imax within a second. but when SS mesh is replaced with SS foil, PANI is deposited on it.
So what should be problem with SS mesh as working electrode?

Have the SS mesh and foil the same composition?
The bubble begins when WE is submerged or they need all the electrodes placement to start?
It seems that the SS mesh is being pickled in the high acidic sulphuric concentration.
i buy both SS foil and SS mesh from same shop and he told both are of 302 grade. however, am not check/characterize their content/grade.
when only SS mesh is dipped in electrolyte solution, there are no bubbles but when i complete three electrode configuration, within 8-12 sec bubbles are coming out from working electrode (SS mesh).

You are actually dissolving SS mesh in low pH medium, especially during the anodic scan where the dissolution and the etching of the SS mesh is even more promoted.

What is the Imax Value input in your potentiostat?
Also kindly let me know the surface area of the working electrode of both the SS mesh and SS sheet.
It might be due to the larger surface area of the mesh.
Sidhanth C Kanth If we use metal oxide as working electrodes what could be the reason for Bubbles on the working electrode. I am using metal oxide as a working electrode and in a three-electrode configuration, I am getting bubbles. Can you please suggest what should be changed?
