Apparently they are looking for a reviewer to be assigned for your revised manuscript. Whether the new reviewer would be the same old one or not depends on the availability of the reviewer and the policy and decision of the journal. If the journal assigns new reviewer for the revised manuscript, most likely he/she will go through the whole manuscript.. but most of the time will be spent on the revised section(s).

it means that probably the previous reviewer was too busy or not enough aware of the topic, so the Editor is forced to find a new reviewer.

thanks a lot. the status of “awaiting reviewer assignment” just last for less than one day, and on the same day, the status was changed to “awaiting reviewer scores”. Does this mean my revised article still went to the previous reviewers? Because I think it should take longer to find new reviewers (normally 2 days)?

It is something related to technical updating I think.

It means that the editors invited more reviewer to review your paper as it seems like the old reviewers had conflicting opinion about your mamuscript

Kube, you have raised some important questions that authors and co-authors continue to seek greater clarity from editors. The status of a paper does matter as it signals to the corresponding author at what stage of the review process their paper has reached. I am afraid it does not forebode reassurance when a paper such as yours, after being duly revised and resubmitted, changes its status from 'under review' to 'awaiting reviewer assignment'. Recently a colleague of mine posted our experience on 'Waiting times' for paper rejections on ResearchGate, which you may wish to follow. Interesting, although sometimes frustrating and time sapping.

It means that the chief editor is waiting for the reviewers' score on your corrections.

Maybe the there was only two reviewers at the beginning of the reviewing process and they had conflicting opinion so the Editor is looking for a new reviewer.
