Why is a dark incubation period is important for agrobacterium-mediated transformation?

As far as my reading of the Agrobacterium literature, there are not much work on this however some limited data from Lamparter group in Karlsruhe, Germany, suggest that Agrobacterium motility is considerably reduced with exposure to light. Darkness promotes induction of many flagellar genes and movement of bacteria. Similarly, darknes was also found to increase bacterial attachment to plant cells and hence leads to increased virulence. Light affects motility and infectivity of Agrobacterium tumefaciens (2008. Oberpichler et al. Environmental Microbiology 10(8), 2020–2029.
However, there is also at least one report indicating the opposite in slightly different system. Here are the details of the second paper.
Planta. 2003 Feb;216(4):580-6. Light strongly promotes gene transfer from Agrobacterium tumefaciens to plant cells. Zambre et al.
These discrepancies already makes it interesting to do further research.
