Separate evolution of Pinnation on various distant spermatophyte clades possibly indicate a strong urge to convergent evolution of pinnation. Then why is it not universal? But still why this trend is so diverse among many embryophytes? (note microphylls, megaphylls, lamina phylloclade terminologies have no absolutely distinct and sharp boundary,as far as i am concerned). Can anyone hint to evolutionary/reproductive/ecological advantage of pinnation and compound leaves in plants?
It can be hard trying to reconcile these ideas from an evolutionary point of view. I personally believe in creation, so don't worry about these things :)
Hello Sumit; Here is a reference that describes one interpretation of function. If control of leaf temperature is a fitness trait, then traits like leaf shape, posture and pilosity would be selected for in some populations. Such a selective regime wouldn't be expected in every habitat. Thus the trait you are thinking about wouldn't be expected to be universal.
In wet habitats drip-tips are another widespread leaf trait... Check that out.

A pinnate leaf is morphologically and functionally equivalent to a leafy twig. The question can thus be reformulated as : what is the advantage of having caducuous twigs ? Trees with pinnate leaves usually have thicker branches.
