I want to build a very simple 2-D Planar deformable shell model in Abaqus CAE. Model boundary condition is left-side (u1=ur2=u3=0), with elastic range load on right-side.
My Question is why the part translate a little bit to -y direction as the attached pic shows. This is unreasonable. I will appreciate if someone could help. I tried different static types and mesh size, but the results still looks this.
The results are very reasonable, because of the Poisson effect one linear strain produce a negative transverse strain.

It is very reasonable if the part has the same deformation on top and bottom side，but the part only shift to bottom side a little bit. That's where I am confused.
If you have no bc that resttricts vertical movement at all, an arbitrarily small force leads to movement in the vertical direction (this depends on whether your model is dynamic or static, calculated implicitly or explicitly). Your result may be due to numerical noise.
Just fix one node on the vertical direction to avoid this rigid-body motion.
