We can choose one or two back stresses when we set up the nonlinear kinematic/isotropic hardening in ABAQUS. How do we decide the number of back stresses? let say model under uniaxial or multiaxial load.
Higher numbers seem to help with modelling the Bauschinger effect. Also a considerable improvement in modeling ratchetting can be achieved by superposing several backstresses.
If the material has symmetric strain cycles like steel and you are using a Half Cycle data type, which is mostly the case for steel structures, it is recommended to put the number equal to data point numbers!
