the majority of the Middle-East countries such as (KSA, Emirates, Iraq, Qatar...) are of the fossil energy producers, then they did not feel the need yet to use other sources… it is quite simply.
While there is a plenty of sun in Middle East, I agree that richness in oil resources in the major obstacle for the development of solar power plants there. Simply because solar energy might be more expensive (although more ecological) and thus some subsidies might be needed. It also needs to be balanced because supply is zero at night and peaks in midday.
But I agree that Saudi Arabia is already interested in replacement of part of domestic energy consumption by renewable energy in order to maintain its oil export.
