I m modeling a split Hopkinson tension bar in abaqus explicit to see the failure in fiber metal laminates (FML). In the results while checking for ALLVD (viscous Dissipation energy) its value is above the internal/total energy of the system. which is obviously in correct. it should be less than 2% of the internal energy of the system. now my point is from where does this large viscous energy is coming ?

I have suppressed the following sources of viscous energy.

1. bulk viscosity to 0

2. damping coeff =0 in contact.

3. no stabilization for composite

but still ALLVD is very large. can any one share his views on any other sources of ALLVD that I may be missing ?
