Hom, does it mean that in the case of a fake DOI, it cannot be accessed by the provided DOI or it can be accessed but the DOI is still fake? I only want to understand what the fake means. This is intriguing to me. Thanks
Fake DOI? You mean the link is not working? Because prior to publication of an article, the DOI is usually not live. When an article is accepted, the publisher appoints it with a DOI. However, the DOI is live only after the online version of record appears on the journal's website. So if this is the case, you'll have to wait.
Milad Shirvaliloo you are right but I checked few journals (Not indexed journal) they are registered with DOI but when I checked their archive articles DOI link is placed but does not work.
That's quite strange. You should probably contact the publisher of your article. You can also submit your error report at doi.org/doi. Just copy the DOI of your article and paste it after the / mark.
Indeed, this is how a real DOI should look like, starting with https://doi.org/
I recently came across a fake one that looks disturbingly legit:
http://doi.one/
Best regards.
PS. It looks to me that the publisher behind this “Maples Scientific Publishers” (Mapsci Digital Publishers OPC Pvt Ltd.) is a new player (since 2019). Using fake DOI, falsely suggest that “Journal of Dentistry and Oral Sciences” is indexed in PubMed (while only one author has a NIH grant and so the paper is automatically included) is not very comforting. It is indeed as mentioned by Arbind K. Choudhary practices of predatory journals.
