I have excellent signal-to-noise ratio (200:1) on a powder X-ray diffraction scan that I collected from 20-85 degrees 2theta.

I am also able to fit this scan relatively well in a Rietveld refinement, with an Rwp of around 8.

However, the Rexp value I get in the refinement is 53, and does not change. I know that Rwp should not be lower than Rexp, or I am "over-fitting the data." Why is my Rexp value so high if I have a clean, pure scan with little noise? How can I decrease this Rexp value?

Does this value come from my refinement, or only from the scan quality itself?

Thanks!
