Dear RG-Community,

I am preparing a course for my students that focuses on teaching Inkscape to create scientific illustrations. During my preparation, I came up with the question: what actually is a great illustration in a paper? I have a couple of ideas, but I wanted to ask you guys: what do you think?

The details of living beings. Certain morphologies that differentiate them from others, for example, or certain morphologies that bring them closer together, or demonstrate similar but evolutionarily distinct morphologies.

And, of course, the beauty of diversity itself.
