I am performing a four point bending test on a cold formed steel I-Beam with non linear geometric and material properties in ABAQUS. I am applying load on two rigid plates. The load is applied as a pressure distributed on the top surface of plates. I am getting displacement values on the nodes of interest. However, the force values (CF, RF or TF) at those nodes is zero. I tried to plot the load on the nodes of the top surface of the plate as well, but could not do so.
Is my approach wrong? Am I missing out on something?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
I think you may incorrectly choose the node of the rigid plate, therefore, the RF is zero since the RF belongs to the Reference Point of the rigid plates. You can remove all the elements around the Reference Point and then you are able to select the Reference Point.
Bozhou Zhuang Thank you for the prompt reply. However, I have no reference point in my model. The pressure is applied on the surface of the rigid plate. The rigid plate is not modelled as a discrete or analytical rigid but a deformable member whose modulus is artificially raised (2.1e11 GPa).
If you choose to output the result of "Unique Nodal" in the field output? Changing it into "Integration Point" or "Element Nodal" might be helpful.
BTW, there will be no RF if those nodes are not constrained in the interested DOF.
To my mind, if you do not apply concentrated forces at the nodes of interest and those nodes are not constrained (as Bozhou Zhuang said), zero output is correct.
I agree with victor. Nodal forces are only (somewhat) meaningful when you have a constraint. Otherwise, stress is the quantity you need because the nodal force depends on the mesh density.
Dear @Martin and @Victor I have the same question, how can one obtain the load vs displacement curve at the desired location in case of no point load? Means only pressure load is applied on top of the beam at placed plates, now I want to obtain a load-displacement curve for this case then how to get it? I tried but getting zero force. Please help me, anyone.

Try to combine nodal displacement as X data and pressure value as Y data.

Well, Omar, you have to select all the nodes where you applied support conditions. (In my case it was simply supported beam so I created a group for nodes containing each support) so after completing Job analysis in ABAQUS>Result>create xy data>fieldOutput>unique nodal>RF>RF2>lastoption>nodes>select both created groups for support nodes> click plot.
That's it. Also, you can export that graph in excel from top options. This step gives you (Force vs Time) graph.
Repeat the same procedure only select displacement(U)>U2>last option>select region>select mid-bottom node of beam>plot.
These second steps will give you (Displacement vs Time).
Now merge Force vs Displacement by eliminating time data which will be same for both.
