I am preparing molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) using methacrylic acid as monomer, EGDMA as crosslinker, AIBN as initiator and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) as the template polymer/analyte via free radical polymerization.
After synthesis of the polymer without extracting out the SMX, I validate using FTIR. The problem is, all bands and peaks of the polymer are shown except for the SMX peaks such as amine group from 3200 - 3500 cm-1 are not shown, indicating that SMX was not embedded within the polymer matrix. May I know if someone has a suggestion for this repeated issue, please? Thank you.

I don't know if what happens to you is this, but I believe that your problem is associated with the limitation of the technique (FTIR). In the last year, I developed a MIP that the amino group of APTES (aminopropyl-triethoxysilane) was not observed in the IR spectrum. I used ninhydrin, a colorimetric indicator and the compound was present.
