Robots will just add to the range of relationships involving love and sex. Personal relationships between humans and robots, androids, cyborgs, AI, replicants, etc. have already been amply explored in scifi literature and film. Sexbots are already available, with advanced models and advanced teledildonics on the horizon.
Teledildonic possibilities and the ethics thereof are already being investigated by philosophers.
Is love central to literature? Relationships usually are, but love? Sitting here I pondered on those that do not. I thought of Gilgamesh, and then remembered the central characters love for Enkidu-homosexual or just man-bonding? Frankenstein-parent and child. Milton's Paradise Lost-Satan and God. Then I gave up. But Karl is right: we have a need to make relationships, describe them and develop them.
As a strong feeling of affection, love has long been the most significant thematic element in the world literature. Essentially, the main reason is that the rays of love shine upon us and fill our hearts with ego less humility which is an energizing factor for coping with the burdens of life. Feelings of love and our well wishing for others lead to our own peace of mind. Notably, the emergence of robots in modern techno society is a reality we cannot ignore. Although the sci fi movies sometimes portray the love of a particular robot to a human being, it is hard to believe that such affective relations can be displayed by non human entities. Unless artificial intelligence reaches a stage where robots can be programmed to display the full range of human feelings and mental affects , such a kind of love seems to be far fetched.
Love gives a soothing effect to the mind and body so it is one of the core subjects of the literature, As per my opinion significant change may not happen in the robotics era.
Why is love the most significant theme in literature? If robots control everything in the future, can love keep its position in literature?
Love is significant theme in literature, as first reason is economical one: love component makes writings, popular and selling grew as compare to writings with less or no love component (writers are not, per say, all, responsible for this love component, as it is supply and demand; what human beings prefer to read; they will put it their and all buying and selling will grow).
Answer to the second part of question: Writers will find another way of adding love to literature with robots, as many fiction in writing, movies and drama form already have elements of robotic love e.g 'little wonder' family drama has a little robot girl in family home acting as their daughter was very effective one; and many more other examples like this.
If people can love their cars, smart phones, lap tops and Eiffel tower etc; then why not robots!
An apology, It was "small wonder" I have written 'little wonder' "Small Wonder was an American comedy science fiction sitcom that aired in first-run syndication from September 7, 1985, to May 20, 1989. The show chronicles the family of a robotics engineer who secretly creates a robot modeled after a human girl, then tries to pass it off as their adopted daughter"(wonderhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_Wonder_(TV_series).
It is because love is the epitome of the creator. As such, nature is embedded and clothe in love. Thus, occupying it's central position in literature. It is this very important quality that robots and AI have not been able to manifest.
I don't agree completely with the question. Love is not just restricted to literature. It is everywhere. In fact, the creator of robots, i.e. George Devol, had this love for machines and robotics which pushed him to create the first ever digitally programmed robot named : UNIMATE (1954).
Love is the first - the rest of the human feelings - is a complex thing that interferes with several cultural, social, economic, psychological and biological standards, this situation causes the complexity and the very intertwined in the inability to determine certain results. Also, we do not always find a causal path from the point of reasons to the point of results, Traffic lines of this type are filled with huge gaps.
Our attempts to understand human feelings in general, and love in particular, from the point of view of biochemistry, evolutionary psychology, or the latest advances in brain imaging technology, are only ways of understanding, research methods that give us an aspect of a complete picture controlled by several criteria. Here, in the foreground, because almost everyone deals with articles, books, evolutionary psychology or chemistry related to human behavior as clear signs of the possibility of reducing the human being in the biology of his body, which is not true at all
Let's start together with the simplest thing, love is a feeling, and the evolutionary function of feeling is the stimulus to do something, this act is capable of causing harm or benefit or both. Pain, for example, is your body's way of moving away from harmful things. To the fire, you made that decision for some crazy reason, here the pain will prevent you from continuing to put your hands there, you will withdraw immediately against your will, here stop your body from trying to destroy it at your will
Similarly, we can look at sexual desire from the same point of view. It is something that you can not prevent, no matter what you are being terrorized, something that your mind or your wise or unreasonable decision can not prevent. Because it is like pain, you will always be willing to do so. Decisions in many aspects of their lives; but some things - the survival and passing of your genes to your offspring - can not be subject to a large extent to your anguish, although in very few cases; but most often surrender to the desire at some point
Love the most significant theme in literature because it is the most profound emotion we'll ever experience. And if robots control everything in the future, in my opinion, there would be no place for love in literature because robots are incapable of experiencing love.
Love is not found only in literature, it is also in religions. Islam, for example, is full of love, but unfortunately Muslims don't see it. If the robot controls the world, religion remains so love remains so love remains in the literature. Love will become a rare feeling BUT it will remain in the world.
The real true love is not described in literature. I mean: Love and help human beings as real brothers and sisters and the Creator will love you, take care of you and Paradise is waiting for you.
