If impedance is an AC phenomenon, or if AC causes certain cell phenomena to become prominent at certain frequencies, why do we care about them?
Under working conditions the cell will be charging/discharging under DC so what makes AC or EIS a useful measurement tool?
EIS is an important tool to understand the impedance or resistance of a system. You can use Nyquist plot to get lot of data. First, you can get the value of uncompensated resistance of the system that is not related to the cell but due to circuit. Second, you can get charge transfer resistance between electrode and electrolyte that helps to understand the reaction between catalyst/substrate and the electrode. Third, you can fit the Nyquist plot to get idea about the circuit of your system. It is important tool not only in electrolysis cell but also in galvanic cell.
