I have synthesized green gold nanoparticles from plant sample and when i analysed the sample for Edx, the sample is not showing Au peak instead the peaks of Cl, Mg etc is found and the highest is Cl.Can anyone please explain the reason for this. and what should be done to get a clear Au(gold) peak.
You have to confirm the formation of AuNPs through UV-Vis spectrophotometry first. Once it confirms presence of AuNPs, the pellets obtained through centrifugation should be washed thoroughly with distilled water and dried before sending it for further characterization.

Centrifugation is better as it allows nanoparticle alone to settle down. Rest of the major impurities are left behind in supernatant which can be easily removed using micropipette. Further washing of nanoparticle pellets with distilled water a few times will remove any residual impurities, unbound phytochemicals or any other salt components from gold precursor salt.
