I do believe that every researcher is suffering every time planning to submit any publication due to the different referencing styles for each journal!! Why don't we able to agree with only one reference style?
Variety is the spice of life! That is my first response. Beyond that, differences in ideological base between disciplines warrant that there should be different citation styles. Citation style is in fact part of disciplinary culture. It is part of what constitutes the uniqueness of a particular journal. Already, there exist basic desiderata for citing an article and if any citation style accommodates those, I don't see any problem with that.
I couldn't agree more with Christian but I share the same sentiments with you as it can be quite tedious when adhering to different referencing styles for various journals. However, I have become accustomed to the various styles through practice time and again and we academicians can't run away from this culture.. You will get the hang of it Abdulqadir and its a matter of time.
Thank you for raising such a good idea. Does the variety actually matter??? It still comes to the same thing at the end of the day. I really wish we can go back to the drawing board and agree to one single style. But are the stake holders ready to let go of their own styles to accommodate the one style? Which of the style do you think would be the best to choose? I see this as the main battle that may not be won. So we are stack with the different styles!!!!!
