Thank you for sharing the question, choosing of the journal is depending on the author. For example; if the author is student,, the most important point is the time for response and publication.

I believe three important aspects play a major role in selecting a journal for publication; (1) the time period you wish to wait to get a response from the journal; most of the journals provide information related to average waiting time, (2) the type of journal access; this highly depends on the waiting time aspect as well as your research budget, and most importantly (3) the research field and themes; your database search findings and your references must be of use in this matter. Selection of journal for publication is determined by several factors

1- Search journals that most closely match with your paper keywords.

2- Select journals that its aims and scope match your study subject ( some journals publish LR, case studies,,, and some are not)

3- Select journals from your area of specialty (nursing and related medical fields) and go more focus of specific topics

4- Review some related topics and see where they publish, check the list of refernses.

5- Select journals with the highest impact factors

6- Download the International Scientific Indexing (ISI) journals and chose one of them.

7- Always, keep alternatives, if a certain journal reject your paper, modify it and look for another one.

8- Cost is always a matter

You can also check Journal metrics.(mostly available in the home page of Journals)..It included important parameters  such as speed of review, impact factor and acceptance rate.  Personally I give high  attention to impact factor and speed of review.

For me it is mainly depend on the major aim of publishing:

1- If you are publishing for academic rank so you should strictly follow the policies of your institution, and they are mostly asking to publish in ISI , and Scopus indexed journals.

2- If your purpose is to disseminate the results of your study, decide your budget and how much you afford to pay for the fees then choose according to that journal in you field, good indexing like pubmed, medline, ebsco and science direct . with high impact factor and publishing frequency at least quarterly so you will have better chance to be considered

Simply the journal scope and impact factor. peer review open access journals are the best. However, If you have financial issues you can choose non open access journals.

You can do the following:

- determine whether the subject matter of your article matches that of the target journal. Consider the sort of research that the journal focuses on. Is it theoretical (e.g., Acta Biotheoretica) or applied (e.g., Annals of Applied Biology)? Is the range of articles sought by the journal broad-based or very narrow in focus?

- confirm that your target journal accepts the article type you intend to submit. For example, if your paper is a case study, check that the journal publishes case reports.

After preparing a manuscript, your next step is to choose a journal for the publication of your research. Carefully selecting the journal to which to submit your manuscript greatly reduces the chances of rejection of your work. Once you have taken a preliminary decision on the journal, read the Instructions to Authors to discover the limitations imposed by the journal in the form of article format, word count, citation styles, photograph specifications, publication costs, etc. This will help you make a final decision.

In addition to a thorough 10-month old answer by a user with deleted profile, let me recall that if you already have the title and abstract for your article, you can use the following tools from Elsevier and Springer to help you pick a right journal among those that belong to the respective publisher

The output of these tools shows inter alia average article processing times and impact factors of the journals and, if I recall correctly, also publication fees and open access fees.

If that matters, remember that in many journals you can publish free of charge if you do NOT make your article open access (i.e. it is available only to journal subscribers), but this should be checked for each journal separately.
