Why does the same side get affected when mice have ipsilateral side MCAO surgery?

Hello, everyone. I have a strange problem during MCAO surgery on a transgenic mouse colony. I performed MCAO on the left side, which should have resulted in damaging the right side, yet the same side was affected while assessing the behaviors. Does anyone have this kind of problem?
