We found a good and consistent calibration over a range of 0-350ppm of CrVI from K2Cr2O7 in a spectrophotometer after adding diphenylcarbazide to the samples at a pH of about 7.

Would this be acceptable?

The purple colour does not develop at all but the absorbance changes very linearly and would thus provide a good calibration.
