Two chromosome sets exist in an allotetraploid, one from the maternal parent and the other from paternal parent. We have an allotetraploid plant species, from which we found that the homeologues from paternal parent had more genetic variations than that from maternal parent. Is it common that one set of homeologues evolves faster than the other set? And is there any explanation for this phenomenon?
