Our history is full of stories confirming a certain type of repeated episodic determinism. Our fate also appears to succumb to repeated hisotry. Are there any known reasons for this?

I encourage you to give up on that concept that "History repeats itself." This can be self-limiting. You can expand your awareness to discover the ideas that have kept you locked in place, repeating your mistakes, and feeling dissatisfied. As you discover how you've been habitually thinking the same old thing, and thus experiencing the same old thing, you'll put new thoughts into place and prove to yourself that history does not repeat itself.....unless you do.

I think a possible reason may be the lack of originality and imagination of policy makers. As to put it as a variation of the same subject: our most developed ability is the imitation.

History does not repeat itself because history is not a series of consecutive events but a continuum. History is too often taught as things past and usually in terms of empires, kingdoms, wars etc. This is a very restricted and old fashioned approach.
We live in history our existence is continuous rather than compartmentalised. For instance the Roman Empire did not 'fall', it evolved into something else just as it had evolved from what came before it.
Many historians now look at the two 20th century World Wars not as separate events but as episodes of a single story. It was not so much that the 2nd war was a repeat of the first, rather that it was continuation of it. From 1918 to 1939 was not peace but an armistice.
We are still in this period of history, the old causes of major wars are still with us and we should be cautious of the triggers that ignite them.
Think 1 reason why history repeats itself is that we; human beings never learn from history. Perhaps before we make any decision / action we should review history in the past so that we will not repeat the history / same mistake again. Reviewing history before a person is making any decision / action is like a researcher reviewing literature before embarking on any research.
Because the nature of people has not changed much... Still, many people who go into politics are greedy, mainly acting in their own interests, they are not interested in learning from others or helping others... and some are ready to do whatever possible to stay in power: betray their friends etc. Of course, some good people also go into politics, but as they are good, they will not often raise high enough to change something.

To go back to repetition of events and situations. Human desires as well as sins have been always the same. Unfortunately, this invariability is right for our inability to learn from the mistakes of the past. Consequently, humanity arrive at very similar situations and repeatedly commit the same or analogous mistakes. Of course, this is not a chance but the series of continually committed illogical and erroneous deeds. So we can simulate the past to produce better future. It is not always mistakes and errors occurred in history. Those who have no idea in their history they never jump properly to higher threshold in the present to the future.

According to the denotation of “repeat,” history can’t repeat itself. (And if you want to get technical and into chaos theory, neither can anything else.) While history does not repeat as such the lessons from it are frequently not heeded. That is what is meant by Santayana's famous statement. The key is in the words learn and repeat.
One spectacular example is in military history where it is said generals are always prepared to fight the last war.
In 1939 the British sent an army for Northern France to stop Hitler's blitzkrieg. It was a repeat of the British Expeditionary Force of 1914 snet to stop the Kaiser's earlier invasion of France.
Remarkably, and in spite of Britain having inventing the tank during WW1 this poorly equipped and remarkably small army expected to stop multiple armoured divisions supported by excellent air cover. All of the British generals in 1939 had fought in WW1 but they seem to have forgotten the lessons of it.

Life has its own dynamics and humans need to learn how to control them and when needed to change them. Otherwise, they will always react the same way and use similar methods to deal with tje same issue. So, "Men repeats themselves in history".

History keeps repeating itself because people failed to Study history and learn lesson from mistakes and failure of the past. They failed to acknowledge the existence of the third branch of metaphysical Philosophy called causality(The theory of cause and effect).

Stories are endlessly repeated employing a few events from any given past.
We view history as a narrative formed from a number of ideas on humankind, god (if you like), society and time and create structures around them. The repeats are only in the telling.
I am nevertheless reminded of Corbyn here in the UK, the Labour leader, whose policies I experiienced many years ago under other Labour governments. They were a complete disaster, with constant, widespread strikes and union leaders attempting to run the country rather than voted-in political parties. The country was brought to its knees. the younger generation of voters have no memory of it and many older voters are looking, i suspect, through pink-coloured glasses into the past. I was a labour voter too, but I was horrified by the shameless selfishness of union leaders and extreme left-wing agitators.
Will history repeat itself? Not necessarily. People here are fed-up with present negative government strategies that go nowhere but.........Again, overspending without investment? Who knows.

The Brexiteers for all of their denials do harbour fond 'memories' of when Britannia ruled the world. The idiots that we have elected to run the country are already talking about abolishing EU worker rights, in spite of lying to the electorate that they would not be tampered with. The radical right wing, every bit as stupid as the radical left wing are showing their colours and we are not even out of the EU yet.
If they think that the pootling anti trade union laws of the Thatcher era would protect them from a re-emergence of an Arthur Scargill and a Red Robbo they are doubly deluded. It was not those laws that collapsed trade union power but the introduction of workers rights legislation that made them obsolete.
Mr Corbyn will re-nationalise the railways, water, the utilities and eventually everything that Thatcher and her sucessors privatised. The unions will grab back power and we will return to the heady days of 1978/9. If the Tory right wing want to see that they will continue to attack workers rights.
The Rees-Moggs, The Goves and the Boris Johnsons of the world would like to restrict workers rights and they are already saying it. That is just the recipe for Corbyn in 10 and McDonnel in 11 Downing Street.

Jeremy Corbyn has always opposed Britain's membership of the EU because while the ECJ is in place many of his revolutionary socialist plans would not be possible.
The re-nationisation plan for one would certainly be challenged in the ECJ. Without the ECJ passing this legislation will be relatively easy. If Corbyn has a working majority it will happen.
The Tories will remove workers rights once Brexit is complete. There will be a huge backlash but blind ideology will drive them on.
The strikes will start and the damage to Britain's already fragile productivity will force us into recession.
The unrealistic trade deals that we keep hearing about will be less glossy in the light of Brexit dawn. To hear the Brexiteers we only have to snap our fingers and every country in the world will come running. Many of them will of course but with contracts drafted by their lawyers, not ours.
The Tories rightly will be blamed for any negatives of Brexit and Britain's voting tradition has been for many decades based on voting a party out of government rather than in. That will put Corbyn in Downing Street.
In terms of repeating past mistakes? Because many people don't know history to know the lessons of history and those who do choose not to learn from past mistakes!
