Why do prices of consumables from the same vendor vary so much between institutions?

Hi,

The lab I have been working in recently move from one institution to the other (moved states too!). I noticed that the pricing of consumables varies a whole lot. For instance, in one institution from one vendor 10cm plates are $100, in the other institution for the same plates from the same vendor the price is $150! O_O

How can pricing vary so much?
