In fluorescence microscopy essays, various colleagues and I noticed that dying cells (not yet detached), that are engineered to express fluorescent proteins, exhibit a clear fluorescence enhancement.
Could you provide references describing the phenomenon?
Do you have a proven explanation?

this is a bit outside of my area, but I know that dying cells can exhibit auto- fluorescence. Also, quick search revealed this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15505417
--> looks like there is an increase in auto-fluorescence at first, followed by decrease. So time matters too: perhaps the other team you mentioned looked at a later time?
