Why do certain elements become grey in color (zero stress) when I try to simulate friction stir welding between two plates in abaqus?

I'm trying to simulate friction stir welding using CEL method in Abaqus. After meshing both the Lagrangian instances and the Eulerian domain, when I run the simulation, certain elements on the boundary become grey in color and have no stress (which is unrealistic). I'd like to know the reason as to why this happens and how to solve this issue. Thanks. I've attached relevant picture for your kind information.
